This Whisky Tour will transport you in comfort, safety, and style to the North East of Scotland and to three Highland whisky distilleries for a series of tastings. Choose from Balblair, Clynelish, Glenmorangie, Glen Ord, and Dalmore Distilleries for this particular tour.

No tour of this part of Scotland would be complete without a visit to the Dornoch Castle Whisky Bar where they have over 450 world whiskies for you to sample from. This is also a very good place to enjoy a hearty lunch with your dram.

This is a private tour and only your group will participate.

* The standard vehicle for our tours is a Volvo XC90 SUV which has six passenger seats. For comfort we recommend up to four passengers however if you have a larger group, two small adults or children could use the rearmost seats.

Not only will you visit three distilleries but you will have lunch at the Dornoch Castle Whisky Bar which boasts more than 450 different bottles of whisky from around the world that are available to sample.

Tour Options and Details

1. Balblair Distillery

Founded in 1790, Balblair is regarded as the fourth oldest distillery in Scotland with only Strathisla, Glenturret, and Bowmore being older. This is a small, intimate distillery which is reflected in the quality of the whisky produced here. Tours and tastings are available, and it is also possible to hand bottle your own whisky from a single cask Balblair at the distillery.
This distillery is closed on Sundays throughout the year, and on Saturdays during the low season

Angels’ Share – in-depth tour and tasting of four of their drams: £25 per person

2. Clynelish Distillery

The original Clynelish distillery was founded in 1819 by the 1st Duke of Sutherland. After a number of changes of ownership through the years, a new distillery was established next door to the first in 1967 and “Old” Clynelish was mothballed in 1968. “Old” Clynelish was reopened in 1969 as Brora and closed again in 1983. Work is now underway to re-open the Brora distillery, hopefully sometime in 2020!
The distillery is closed on Sundays throughout the year

Tour Prices:
During the winter of 2020, Clynelish are offering a complimentary tour followed by a tasting of their 14 year old single malt FREE (for the winter season)

3. Glenmorangie Distillery

The Glenmorangie Distillery was founded in 1843 with production starting in 1849. Glenmorangie is famous the world over for its whisky with the first exports starting as long ago as 1880.A range of Glenmorangie Single Malt Whiskies are available to purchase and try in the relaxed environment of the tasting room.
Fun fact: Glenmorangie is gaelic for “Glen of Tranquility”

Tour Prices:
The Original Tour – guided tour of the distillery followed by a taste of a Glenmorangie dram £8.50 per person

The Signet Tour – in depth tour and a visit to the Signet Room to sample Glenmorangie Original and Glenmorangie Signet £35.00 per person

4. Glen Ord Distillery

Glen Ord is located in the Muir of Ord just a short drive from Inverness. Their whisky is sold under the brand name “The Singleton” along with Dufftown and Glendullan. This particular whisky is usually only available in south-east Asia or directly at the distillery itself.

Tour Prices:
Glen Ord Tour – tour of the distillery followed by a tasting of their 12 year old whisky £10 per person

Singleton Tour – tour followed by tutored tasting of the 12, 15, and 18-year old £18 per person

Experience Tour – extended tour followed by two tastings direct from the cask £50 per person

5. The Dalmore Distillery

Founded in 1839, Dalmore was one of the first single malts to be exported to all corners of the world. Situated near to the port of Invergordon, alongside the shores of the Cromarty Firth, The Dalmore continues to produce their distinctive range of single Highland malt whiskies.
At present in the tasting room you can sample up to 9 single malts from their core and travel range at only £5 per dram, irrespective of the RRP of the bottle. This represents great value as they can retail at up to £175 per bottle!

6. Dornoch Castle Hotel Whisky Bar

No whisky tour to the Highlands would be complete without visiting the Dornoch Castle Hotel’s Whisky Bar. Home to one of the newest distilleries in Scotland, the Whisky Bar has an extensive collection of rare and unique malts which you are able to sample (for a fee of course). If the weather is fine, this can be taken in the garden, however if it’s a little colder, the Castle Bar is a great alternative. In addition, there is a wide range of food options from well-priced bar food to a full a-la-carte menu
