Invergordon Cruise Port hosts more than 100 visiting liners per year and many visiting passengers arrive looking for a tour. Previous visitors to Invergordon may have already done the scenic tours on offer and are looking for something else to do. Does this sound like you? Do you have an interest in scotch and the whisky making process?  Even if you have never tasted whisky before, there is something on this tour for everyone.

You will visit up to four Highland Distilleries and a world-famous whisky bar during the course of the day. The distilleries are Glenmorangie, The Dalmore, Clynelish, and Balblair whilst the Dornoch Castle Whisky Bar makes up the fifth destination. The Dornoch Castle Hotel Whisky Bar is a great place to stop for lunch. They have a well-priced bar menu as well as a full a la carte restaurant menu. You could enjoy lunchalongside one of the 450 drams that they have available to purchase. There are other lunch options also available in Dornoch if you prefer.

The number of distilleries that you are able to visit depends on the amount of time you have on shore as well as if you wish to take a tour. Distillery Tours usually need to be pre-booked and take up to two hours. As every ship has differing amount of time on shore, we will work with you to design the itinerary for your days visiting the distilleries of your choosing.

* The standard vehicle for our tours is a Volvo XC90 SUV which has six passenger seats. For comfort we recommend up to four passengers however if you have a larger group, two small adults or children could use the rearmost seats.

On this tour you will have the opportunity to visit up to four distilleries and to have lunch in a world-famous whisky bar. The itinerary is fully customisable and whether you wish to take tour(s) at the distilleries or just taste their whisky is up to you.

Please note that during the busy summer months, pre-booking distillery tours is strongly advised. Please consult with us to confirm the timing will work prior to booking any distillery tour(s).

Depending on the time you have available on shore, you will be able to do up to:

  • one distillery tour, three tastings and lunch
  • two distillery tours and lunch
  • four distillery tastings and lunch

Tour Options and Details

1. Balblair Distillery

Founded in 1790, Balblair is regarded as the fourth oldest distillery in Scotland with only Strathisla, Glenturret, and Bowmore being older. This is a small, intimate distillery which is reflected in the quality of the whisky produced here. Tours and tastings are available, and it is also possible to hand bottle your own whisky from a single cask Balblair at the distillery.
This distillery is closed on Sundays throughout the year, and on Saturdays during the low season

True Highland Spirit Tour – distillery tour and two drams: £10 per person

Angels’ Share – in-depth tour and tasting of four of their drams: £25 per person

2. Clynelish Distillery

The original Clynelish distillery was founded in 1819 by the 1st Duke of Sutherland. After a number of changes of ownership through the years, a new distillery was established next door to the first in 1967 and “Old” Clynelish was mothballed in 1968. “Old” Clynelish was reopened in 1969 as Brora and closed again in 1983. Work is now underway to re-open the Brora distillery, hopefully sometime in 2020!
The distillery is closed on Sundays throughout the year

Tour Prices:
During the winter of 2020, Clynelish are offering a complimentary tour followed by a tasting of their 14 year old single malt FREE (for the winter season)

3. Glenmorangie Distillery

The Glenmorangie Distillery was founded in 1843 with production starting in 1849. Glenmorangie is famous the world over for its whisky with the first exports starting as long ago as 1880.A range of Glenmorangie Single Malt Whiskies are available to purchase and try in the relaxed environment of the tasting room.
Fun fact: Glenmorangie is gaelic for “Glen of Tranquility”

Tour Prices:
The Original Tour – guided tour of the distillery followed by a taste of a Glenmorangie dram £8.50 per person

The Signet Tour – in depth tour and a visit to the Signet Room to sample Glenmorangie Original and Glenmorangie Signet £35.00 per person

4. The Dalmore Distillery

Founded in 1839, Dalmore was one of the first single malts to be exported to all corners of the world. Situated near to the port of Invergordon, alongside the shores of the Cromarty Firth, The Dalmore continues to produce their distinctive range of single Highland malt whiskies.
At present in the tasting room you can sample up to 9 single malts from their core and travel range at only £5 per dram, irrespective of the RRP of the bottle. This represents great value as they can retail at up to £175 per bottle!

5. The Dornoch Castle Hotel Whisky Bar

Dornoch Castle Whisky Bar has more than 450 whiskies for you to sample on their extensive whisky menu. In addition, there is a wide range of food options from well-priced bar food to a full a-la-carte menu

Docking at the main berth:
Highland Day Tours will meet you where you exit the security gate adjacent to Shore Road. Your driver will be holding a sign with your name on it

Docking at the Saltburn Pier:
If you dock at the Saltburn Pier you will be brought off the ship by shuttle bus. Please ask your driver to drop you off at the gate rather than going into the town. Your driver will be waiting holding sign with your name on it
